Tease

A poem about a tease...

you think you’re cute and subtle.

i watch you,
eyelids lowered,
pawing the ground beneath me,
a little at a time.

i have time to wait.
i’m in no rush.

what you think is a smile
is a smirk:
i know you.

i know how you cock your head to the side
feigning deep thought
when really, we both know,
it’s an excuse to expose that long length of neck
and watch me twitch
as i purse my lips tight,
reining them in.

that twirl of fingers in hair
isn’t quite the afterthought you pretend.
nor is the graze of hand on my arm
or the stem of glass
you slide your fingers down.
none of it is happenstance.

this little dance,
it humors me.

i relax into it
savoring the wanting
that has grown thick in my mouth.
i move it around with my tongue,
slipping over and around and under,
imagining it is you,
spread beneath me,
like an endless ocean
a stretch of desert
a glass of wine, spilled,
and seeping…
